In July, Abrams took over Gomez’s Instagram account, as part of a campaign dubbed #ShareTheMicNow.
Abrams told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that she was proud to have the platform and a conversation with the 27-year-old star. “I was privileged to be in communication with Selena. We had a really thoughtful conversation about the work that I’ve been doing, not only around voter suppression and the census, but why,” she said. “This is how we create economic and social progress and these are tools, not ends of themselves but tools, for how we make the change. That’s what Selena is so committed to.”
Gomez’s good deeds have extended into 2021, as her HBO Max cooking show, Selena + Chef has raised $360,000 for 23 nonprofit organizations over two seasons, according to People.
The organizations that benefited from the impressive funds include World Central Kitchen, Beit T’Shuvah, City Harvest, Alma Backyard Farms, NAACP, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Feeding San Diego, No Kid Hungry, Feeding America, Postpartum Support International, Chrysalis, Harlem Grown, C-CAP, Summa Everything, MAAC Project, Baby2Baby and Smile Train.
