See Benedict Cumberbatch in the First Trailer for Wes Anderson’s New Short Film

See Benedict Cumberbatch in the First Trailer for Wes Anderson’s New Short Film

The first trailer is out for Netflix’s original film, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, written, directed and produced by Wes Anderson. The short film is based on the 1977 namesake story collection by Roald Dahl, whom Anderson has adapted films from in the past.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Henry Sugar, a rich man who encounters a book about a guru who can see without using his eyes. Enchanted by the story, he decides to master the skill for himself – by way of intense meditation – in order to be able to cheat at gambling.

Alongside Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes plays Roald Dahl and Dev Patel portrays Dr. Chatterjee. Additional members of the main cast include Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend and Richard Ayoade.

The trailer kicks off with the story of the guru, cutting to Sugar holding the story in his hands. “This is a terrific piece of information. This could change my life,” Sugar says.

He quickly puts the skill to work himself by hitting the casino but the excitement of making money seems to wear off quickly, as Sugar stands on his balcony and flings handfuls of dollar bills into the wind.

Earlier this month, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar received a premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. The movie will make its way to theaters on September 20, followed by a release on Netflix on September 27.
