Seattle Seahawks Are Trading Russell Wilson to Denver Broncos

Seattle Seahawks Are Trading Russell Wilson to Denver Broncos

In arguably one of the biggest trades in NFL history, the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to trade their star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

According to ESPN, the Broncos are sending over “a significant package of players and draft picks” to the Seahawks, trading quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant and defensive lineman Shelby Harris. Seattle will also be receiving two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a 2022 fifth-round selection.

With this trade, the Broncos are finally receiving the quarterback package they sought after Peyton Manning retired. As for Seattle, it gives the Seahawks a chance to rebuild their only Super Bowl title. Earlier this week, Wilson waived his no-trade provision and passed his Broncos’ physical. His move to Denver will end his historic 10-season run with Seattle which included nine Pro Bowl selections, one Super Bowl title and more wins any quarterback has ever posted in his first 10 seasons in the NFL.

The move comes just over a year after news of Wilson’s frustrations with the organization. In February 2021, he publically complained about all the hits and sacks he has taken over his career. Previously, he spoke about wanting to continue to win more Super Bowls with Seattle in the long-term, however it seems that it will no longer be possible. Wilson has two years and $51 million USD left on the four-year, $140 million USD extension he signed in April 2019. If he stayed on Seattle’s roster, they would have owed him his $5 million USD bonus.

In other NFL news, Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the upcoming season due to gambling on games.
