SEATTLE — There was a celebration of spring in Seattle today. The Holi Festival of Colors showed up downtown.
The festival has its roots in India and celebrates diversity, art, and culture.
After a decade of success in the Bellevue and Renton communities, organizers brought the festival downtown.
Music, food, dancing, and splashes of color kicked off at the Seattle Center, then people could move on over to Westland park for round two.
The festival allowed participants to play and color each other with dry powder and colored water.
“Our vision for ‘One Seattle’ is all about bringing communities together to embrace our diversity and celebrate the many cultures that make our city stronger,” said Mayor Bruce Harrell. “The Seattle Color Festival is an excellent opportunity for residents to experience the vibrancy and richness of Indian culture and traditions through music, performances, and food.”
The Holi Festival of Colors is an Indian festival that is now celebrated around the world, said the city of Seattle in a news release. It is a festival to celebrate everyone and inclusivity. Holi is a celebration of love, fertility, color, and triumph of good over evil, and marks the end of winter and the welcoming of spring.
“Celebrating diverse communities and cultures across our region with live music, entertainment, and the arts is what we’re all about here at Seattle Center,” said Seattle Center Interim Director Marshall Foster.
