ScHoolboy Q Is Back With ‘BLUE LIPS,’ His First Album in Five Years

ScHoolboy Q Is Back With 'BLUE LIPS,' His First Album in Five Years

After a five-year wait, ScHoolboy Q has dropped off his sixth studio effort BLUE LIPS.

Clocking in at just under one hour, the 18-track record features guest appearances from Rico Nasty on “Pop,” Devin Malik on “Back n Love” and with Lance Skiiiwalker on “Love Birds,” Freddie Gibbs on “Ohio,” Ab-Soul on “Foux,” Jozzy on “Lost Times” and Childish Major on “Pig Feet.” BLUE LIPS also includes production work from the likes of The Alchemist, Cardo Got Wings, Luciano, Tae Beast, Malik and more.

In between CrasH Talk and BLUE LIPS, Q repeatedly talked about how the rap game to him was no longer a race. That message was subtly delivered in CrasH Talk as he ominously opened up about his livelihood and history, but in BLUE LIPS, he makes it known that he’s learned to comfortably sit on his throne by being the master of his work. This mindset broke down limits and allowed the artist to further explore his musicality, resulting in an innovative, introspective and cohesive body of work that’s arguably his best yet. The record will almost certainly give listeners a case of BLUE LIPS — which in Q’s definition means to be “speechless, especially as the temporary result of shock or some strong emotion.”
