Sam Smith teamed up with Dionne Warwick and other music stars for a moving performance of the classic hit “That’s What Friends Are For” during the virtual Carousel of Hope Ball on Saturday (Oct. 10).
Part of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, the annual Carousel of Hope event went virtual for the first time this year, boasting appearances by numerous A-list artists, including Tony Bennett, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and Rod Stewart.
The virtual gala — which raised $1 million on Saturday, according to Variety — concluded with Smith and Warwick joining forces with Gladys Knight, Kenny G and Cynthia Erivo for an all-star collaboration of “That’s What Friends Are For.” The performance was introduced by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager, who co-wrote the 1980s classic.
