More details have been revealed surrounding the new Rurouni Kenshin anime. The forthcoming series received a release date and trailer at Aniplex Online Fest 2022, confirming that the new series will be a reboot of the initial 1996 anime adaptation.
The manga that the anime is based upon follows a former assassin who dedicates his life to preserving peace and protecting others. While wandering the countryside, he encounters a young woman in need of help and ultimately invites her into his dojo.
The television adaptation is now slated to premiere on Fuji TV’s anime-centric Noitamina programming block in 2023. Liden Films will be responsible for animating the series, while Hideyo Yamamoto will direct. Hideyuki Kurata has written scripts for the anime and Terumi Nishii has designed the show’s characters under the supervision of the original manga’s author, Nobuhiro Watsuki.
Aniplex additionally shared character designs for protagonists Himura Kenshin and Kamiya Kaoru, voiced by Soma Saito and Rie Takahashi, respectively.
