Ruby Rose Confirms She Left ‘Batwoman’ Role Because of a Latex Allergy

Last year, Ruby Rose announced that she was exiting her role as Kate Kane in Batwoman just one season in. Months following her departure from the titular CW role, reports indicated that it was not because of the injuries she sustained on set.

Recently, Rose spoke to the Kyle and Jackie O Show and revealed that it she chose to not come back to the show because of an allergy. Rose revealed, “I did find out that I was allergic to latex. I was getting worse and worse, because as you get more contact with it, I guess you get more reactions. I took off the [mask] at the end, and my face was just hives. My throat was all messed up. It was like it was out of a scary movie.”

With her role in as Batwoman, Rose was the first openly gay superhero lead. Last August, the actress addressed her departure and regret that she did not take more time off to recover following her set injries. At the time she said, “I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that. But as far as being a lead of a show or a film—regardless if it’s action or if it’s emotional—in whichever ways it’s taxing.”

Taking Rose’s place as Batwoman is Javicia Leslie. The second season was released at the beginning of January 2021. Season three is expected to premiere on October 13 of this year.

In other entertainment news, Dwayne Johnson says Black Adam was the “hardest undertaking” of his entire career.
