Romy Releases Emotional Dance Music Track “The Sea”

Romy Releases Emotional Dance Music Track “The Sea”

Romy has released a new single from her forthcoming studio album. “The Sea” is the latest song in the ongoing rollout of new music from the English producer and DJ, who is one-third of indie electronic group The xx.

Produced by Fred again.. and Stuart Price, “The Sea” is a romantic dance music track recounting a complicated story of queer love. Romy described the club culture-inspired single as “emotional music to dance to.”

In addition to the song itself, Romy shared a music video directed by Mollie Mills. The video stars the artist herself alongside her wife and frequent collaborator, the photographer Vic Lentaigne.

“Romy always evokes this feeling of euphoria — and with this track specifically touching on wrestles of romance — through a queer lens, it intuitively evoked something about this kind of intertwinement of bodies, both in intimacy and in club culture,” Mills said of making the video.

“I had loosely referenced Louise Bourgeois’ sculpture “The Couple” which actualizes that soul-rupturing entanglement of falling in love — and this is what we wanted to feel in these seascape scenes. This light, blissful, euphoric togetherness that happens alongside these memory slices of euro-heaven.”

Mid Air, the debut solo album from Romy, will be out in full on September 8 via Young.
