Romy, one-third of British indie electronic group The xx, has returned with a new track. Following her collaboration with Fred again.. “Strong,” this latest song “Enjoy Your Life” was revealed via Young and rolled out for the first time on BBC Radio 1.
“Enjoy Your Life” sees Romy reunite with Fred again.., who co-produced the track. Other producers on the project are Stuart Price and another one of her frequent collaborators, Jamie xx.
The song is inspired by a particular occasion: when pop icon Robyn took Romy to a Beverly Glenn-Copeland concert in Stockholm, an event that led to Romy sampling Glenn-Copeland for this new release.
“When I heard the line, ‘My mother says to me enjoy your life’ by Beverly Glenn-Copeland, I was speechless,” Romy said. “Those few words felt like the most simple and disarming sentence. Ever since I was 11, I’ve been aware of and drawn to the phrase: life is short. I’ve felt inspired by people who I’ve seen react to this by trying to see the positives in life, even when things are going wrong and times are hard.”
As much as I’d love to naturally be one of those people, I’m not always able to do this myself and often get in my own head and my own way, so sometimes a reminder goes a long way,” she continued.
“Enjoy Your Life” arrives alongside a music video directed by Romy’s wife, filmmaker and photographer Vic Lentaigne, which features a montage of moments picturing the artist and her mother.
