Rolling Stones Guitarist Ronnie Wood Joins Recovery Charity as Ambassador

Established in 2019 by Melia Clapton (Eric Clapton’s wife), Turn Up For Recovery is a charitable movement which aims to raise awareness of abstinence-based recovery, tackle the stigma of addiction and help make treatment affordable to those struggling with substance addiction.

Through his connection with TUFR, Wood hopes to “bring people together through music to support recovery for addicts, and their friends and family. To become a part of that is my way of giving back, as I am so grateful for all the care and support I’ve received along the way, in my recovery.”

The 73-year-old rock legend has fought his share of health battles in recent years. Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, Wood revealed he’d been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017 and with small-cell carcinoma during the lockdown. “I came through with the all-clear,” Wood told the tabloid.

Wood has been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame on two occasions. First, in 1989, as a member of The Rolling Stones, and a second time as a member of Faces, in 2012.

TUFR ambassadors include Robert Cray, Cindy Cashdollar and Jerry Douglas.
