Rockstar Games Reportedly Pauses ‘Red Dead Redemption’ and ‘GTA IV’ Remakes

Rockstar Games has reportedly shelved planned remakes, including Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV, to focus on developing the upcoming GTA 6.

According to Kotaku, a reputable leaker claimed that both games were bound to get a remaster; however, they have halted all development to use most of its resources and energy on Rockstar’s next big game, Grand Theft Auto 6. The leaker stated that the current plan is to get GTA 6 finished and “out the door.”

The poor reception received from last year’s GTA Trilogy remaster played a big factor in deciding whether or not to carry on the remastered versions of both the games. The previous remaster — which contained GTA: III, GTA: San Andreas and GTA: Vice City, saw poor reviews from critics for its sloppy design and “straight-up broken” mechanics. However, the leaker did mention that a Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV remaster isn’t entirely “out of scope” and could possibly still happen after the development of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Rockstar is entirely focused on the next Grand Theft Auto, which was confirmed to be in development earlier this year. However, the game reportedly would not be out until 2024 or 2025.

Elsewhere in gaming, Sony is supposedly hiring an engineer to bring PS3 emulation to the PS5.
