Rockstar Games on Friday confirmed the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of the release of Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar is remastering the aforementioned gameplay, along with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, with across-the-board upgrades. The definitive series will feature “graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals,” according to the company.
Rockstar has not yet shared details on the improvements to each title or shared any footage from the upcoming releases, though the company has confirmed it will share more details “in the coming weeks.”
In preparation for the launch, the gamer will remove existing editions of the games from digital retailers beginning next week. As part of its 20th-anniversary celebration, Rockstar will also be adding a collection of special gear for players to collect in Grand Theft Auto Online within several upcoming events this fall.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will become available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC later this year. Additionally, the definitive gameplay will be available on iOS and Android in the first half of 2022. Price details and specific release dates have not yet been announced.
In another gaming update, the Kingdom Hearts trilogy is headed to Nintendo Switch.
