Headlined by British rapper Stormzy, the event will be held at the Cloof Wine Estate in Cape Town from 6 to 8 October and at SuperSport Park in Johannesburg on 8 October.
Platoon, which is known for driving African music and culture, will have its artists perform across all of the Rocking the Daisies stages on 6 and 7 October during Golden Hour session.
Joining the Rocking the Daisies line-up for the Platoon Golden Hour in a first-of-its-kind collaboration are local artists Samthing Soweto, Sun-El Musician, Da Capo, Bongeziwe Mabandla, FLVME, DJ Lag, DJ Kenza, Mpho.wav and Kay Faith. Other confirmed artists include Ayra Starr (Nigeria), JID (US), Denzel Curry (US) and The Vamps (UK), Hanna (Zimbabwe) and Anaïs Cardot (Gabon).
“Platoon has partnered with Daisies as the official sunset curator with the goal of shining a light on their soulful and diverse South African roster which will see a Platoon artist appear on all stages of the festival during the magical hours of sunset,” the organisers said.
Rocking the Daisies festival director Shannon Valstar described the inclusion of international acts as a way connecting them with the locals. “As a company that’s looking to bridge the gap between South Africa and the world, it’s very exciting to be able to provide international stars with the opportunity to connect with an African audience for the first time in their careers, so keep an eye on our socials because this is only the beginning of what we’ve got cooking for 2023,” Valstar said.
Platoon was launched in 2016 by industry expert Denzyl Feigelson and LoveFilm co-founder Saul Klein with the goal of supporting the independent distribution of music. Over the years, it has partnered with leading African musicians like Mr Eazi, Msaki, Aymos and Simi, as well as award-winning UK stars Stefflon Don and Jorja Smith. The UK-born distribution and artist services platform is widely known for fast-tracking artists who are in the early stages of their careers, some of whom have gone on to achieve global success.
