Rita Ora Signs Record Deal With BMG

Rita Ora Signs Record Deal With BMG

Rita Ora has struck a partnership with BMG to release her future recordings, the company announced Thursday (Feb. 3). Under the new deal, Ora will own all of her future master recordings.

“I’m THRILLED to announce that I am partnering with BMG!!! I couldn’t be happier that they will be my label family moving forward,” Ora said on social media. “Their approach to artist ownership and control is very much aligned with mine, and it’s so empowering to know that I will own all my master recordings that I make from now on. I also feel so motivated to be working with such a dynamic, creative, forward-thinking global company.”

Ora is one of the largest pop acts BMG has added to its roster and follows the $10 million global deal the company signed with 5 Seconds of Summer in October. Ora has charted four singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and six songs on the top 40 Billboard Pop Airplay chart, including “Black Widow,” her No. 1 single with Iggy Azalea, according to MRC Data. She has also notched four No. 1 hits on the U.K. Singles chart and a No. 1 U.K. album with 2012’s Ora.

The global record label and publisher’s roster also boasts Kylie Minogue, KSI and Run the Jewels.

“We are delighted that Rita, one of the smartest artists operating today, has chosen BMG’s distinctive approach which puts the artist in the driving seat,” said BMG president repertoire and marketing U.K. Alistair Norbury in a release. “Rita is unique among UK artists in the breadth of her activities, from music to TV, film and business, something normally only associated with US artists like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. We look forward to helping achieve her ambitious goals.”

Ora’s debut album Ora was released by Roc Nation/Columbia and her 2018 follow-up Phoenix was released by Atlantic Records UK.

In addition to music, Ora has a growing television career. She currently serves as a panelist on the U.K. version of The Masked Singer and has also been a judge on the U.K. versions of both X Factor and The Voice. She has also appeared as a judge on America’s Next Top Model and The Voice Australia. As an actor, she appeared in all three films in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.

As a businesswoman, Ora has released collections through global brands including Adidas, Tezenis and Escada and struck endorsement deals with Calvin Klein, Superga, DKNY and Roberto Cavalli. In 2019, she launched Próspero Tequila with Conecuh Brands, where she serves as chief creative partner.

“Rita has always been an artist and creator of ‘Firsts’. She started releasing music in her teens and has released some of the biggest hits of the decade,” said Ora’s long-term manager Sarah Stennett in a release. “Her deal with BMG marks a new chapter for Rita where she can deploy the confidence and knowledge of her artistry and audience in navigating the next phase of her career with her at the helm. I’m so proud of the past 10 years we have worked together and I’m so excited for people to hear the music she’s been creating.”
