Ringo Starr Plans All-Starr 80th Birthday Benefit, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, & More Set to Perform

Ringo Starr Plans All-Starr 80th Birthday Benefit, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, & More Set to Perform

To ring in the big 8-0, Ringo Starr plans on celebrating online with an all-Starr broadcast benefit called “Ringo’s Big Birthday Show” next Tuesday, July 7.

Starr traditionally spreads peace and love outside of Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood, Calif. for his birthday, but he’s not letting the coronavirus pandemic stop him from doing so. He recruited fellow living Beatles member Paul McCartney, Ringo Star & His All-Starr Band guitarist Joe Walsh, Gary Clark Jr., Sheryl Crow, Sheila E. and Ben Harper will host at-home performances and feature never-before-seen concert footage. Proceeds raised during “Ringo’s Big Birthday Show” will benefit these four organizations: Black Lives Matter Global Network, the David Lynch Foundation, MusiCares and WaterAid.

“As everyone knows I love gathering with fans for peace and love on my birthday,” the press statement read. “But this year, I want everyone to be safe at home –  so I called up a few friends and we put this Big Birthday Show together so we could still celebrate my birthday with you all, with some great music for some great charities. I hope you will all join me! Peace and Love, Ringo.”

The big birthday bash will also premiere a guest star version of Starr’s “Give More Love” featuring Willie Nelson, Jeff Bridges, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Peter Frampton, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, and Keb’ Mo’.

“Ringo’s Big Birthday Show” will air on his YouTube channel at 8 p.m. ET on July 7. He will also upload a video playlist of tribute performances dedicated to the musicians who’ve previously recorded with Starr, performed at his past birthday celebrations and recorded new versions of his classics, including Costello, Earle, Frampton, Ben Dickey, Ben FoldsBettye LaVette, Colin Hay, Gregg Rolie, Judy Collins, Richard Marx and Steve Lukather.
