While fans everywhere are eagerly anticipating the next album from Rihanna, it seems the singer has different plans, at least for the time being. Rihanna has signed on to the voice cast of Paramount’s forthcoming live-action hybrid animation The Smurfs Movie.
The singer will voice the role of Smurfette, making an in-person appearance at Las Vegas’ CinemaCon on Thursday to announce the news.
“I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but It didn’t work out,” Rihanna joked to the crowd. Along with voicing the character, she’ll also be writing and recording original songs for the movie’s soundtrack, as well as serving as a producer on the film.
Rihanna additionally confirmed that she is in her third trimester of pregnancy with her second child.
Slated to release in February 2025, Chris Miller will direct The Smurfs Movie, which is said to explore the identity of what it means to be a Smurf. Pam Brady is writing the film’s script.
