Rico Nasty Performs Energetic Hits for NPR ‘Tiny Desk (Home) Concert’

Rico Nasty recently linked up with NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert for a raging performance. Featuring an all-woman band, the Maryland-born rapper performed five hits, which came from several projects from the artist’s catalog.

Opening the performance, Rico Nasty showcased a softer side to her edgy rap/rock style with her seated performance of “Magic.” The new single was released earlier this summer, with its music video that dropped two weeks ago. In the song, Rico Nasty offers up sweet vocals, illustrating her versatility as a musician.

After “Magic” it was time to rock out. Switching to some of the high-octane rap/punk rock tracks that she’s known for, she followed with “Rage.” The frenzied screamo track comes from her sixth mixtape Nasty from 2018. Keeping the steam and unapologetic attitude from the previous track, the rapper then moved on to “OHFR?” from her debut studio album Nightmare Vacation, which was released in December of 2020. Back in January of this year, Rico Nasty performed “OHFR?” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with nothing but her raspy tone and a Rococo-style outfit. No background vocals were needed.

She then took it back to Nasty by performing “Trust Issues,” her song which details some of the stress and problems that come with being a star, specifically how she pushes through it anyway. Rico Nasty then finished off the guitar-filled performance with her hit single “Smack A Bitch,” which of course ended with one of her characteristic screams.

In related news, last month Rico Nasty released a new single “Buss.”
