Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu for weeks now.
According to The Athletic, the Londoners are finally closing in on the signing and the two clubs are currently finalizing the terms of the deal.
The player is expected to cost around £15 million-plus add ons.
The report from Athletic adds that Manchester United were keen on signing the player as well but Spurs have been the frontrunners for a while now.
Furthermore, Tottenham was the player’s preferred destination as well.
The 22-year-old Japanese international has done well for the Italian club this past season and it will be interesting to see if he can adapt quickly to the Premier League and make an immediate impact at Spurs next year.
Nuno Espirito Santo needed to bring in defensive reinforcements and the versatile 22 year old could be a useful option for him.
Tomiyasu can operate as a center-back as well as a right-back. Furthermore, he is tactically versatile as well as he can slot into a back four or a back three.
Nuno has often switched between a three defender formation and a back four with Wolves and it will be important to have tactically flexible players like Tomiyasu at his disposal.
The £15m fee seems quite reasonable for a player of his talent and Tomiyasu could prove to be a major bargain for Spurs in the long run.
