Aston Villa have reportedly made a move to sign the Arsenal midfielder Emil Smith Rowe.
The England under-21 midfielder made a big impression for the Gunners last season and the 20-year-old has a massive future ahead of him.
According to The Athletic, the West Midlands club submitted an offer of around £25 million for the young attacking midfielder but Arsenal have turned down the bid unsurprisingly.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are now looking to extend the young midfielder’s contract and they have no intention of selling him anytime soon.
SL View: A sign of Aston Villa’s ambitions
There is no doubt that Smith Rowe is an exceptional talent but Aston Villa’s move for him is quite surprising.
They have recently completed the signing of Emiliano Buendia for a club-record fee from Norwich City. With Jack Grealish at the club as well, they will find it difficult to accommodate so many attacking midfielders in the starting line-up.
Smith Rowe has been at the London club since the age of 10 and he has managed to establish himself as a key starter for the club since breaking into the first team last December.
He had 7 goals and 7 assists to his name in all competitions this past season.
Meanwhile, the Villa fans will certainly be impressed with the club’s ambitions in the transfer market regardless of whether they manage to pull off the signing of the Arsenal midfielder this summer.
The owners have been very active in the market so far and they are clearly looking to put together a side capable of challenging for European qualification.
