Everton have been linked with a move for the Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly in recent weeks.
According to Calciomercato, the Premier League side have now submitted the first offer for the 46-cap Senegalese international. The amount of the bid has not been mentioned in the report and it remains to be seen whether Napoli are willing to sanction his departure.
Earlier there were reports that Rafa Benitez wants to bring the experienced centre-back to Goodison Park this summer.
Koulibaly is one of the best defenders in the world and the 30-year-old would be an outstanding signing for Everton if they manage to convince him to join them.
Everton are clearly keen on improving their defence this summer and they have been linked with the likes of Denzel Dumfries and Max Aarons for the right-back position.
The Toffees will not be able to provide Koulibaly with Champions League football and for a player of his calibre, that could be a deal-breaker. That said, Napoli failed to make the top four this past season and Koulibaly won’t be able to play Champions League football with them either.
It is imperative that the Toffees improve defensively before the new season begins and they have been linked with the likes of Merih Demiral as well.
Benitez will be expected to guide the Toffees to Europe next year and he will need proper reinforcements this summer.
