Aston Villa are eyeing up a move to sign Burnley winger Dwight McNeil according to a report from The Athletic.

It is suggested that signing the 21-year-old Clarets ace is a backup plan for the Villans. That’s if they fail to land Arsenal ace Emile Smith-Rowe this summer.
Dean Smith has already been active in the market but he clearly has further ambitious plans lined up.
Emi Buendia arrived at Villa Park from Norwich City last month and it seems as though the West Midlands outfit are determined to continue their assault on the transfer market.
Aston Villa chasing Dwight McNeil?
The Athletic reckon that the Villans are now eyeing alternatives to Smith-Rowe having had a £30 million bid rejected for the Arsenal play-maker.
It is claimed that Burnley star Dwight McNeil could be an alternative option for Villa and what a signing the 21-year-old would be for Dean Smith.
The Clarets starlet racked up two goals and five assists in 36 Premier League games for Sean Dyche’s side last season.
McNeil is one of the best dribblers in the game. His high intensity and direct playing style would suit Aston Villa’s system down to the ground.
TEAMtalk has claimed that the youngster will cost in excess of £30 million. Whether Aston Villa are prepared to pay that kind of fee for McNeil, however, remains to be seen.
Smith clearly wants to take Villa to another level, therefore it would be no surprise to see the west Midlands outfit splash the cash once again. And signing McNeil for £30m would actually be great value for Aston Villa.
