Reddit’s new tool allows users to mute entire communities on the platform. The feature is called “community muting” and has already launched on Reddit’s mobile app.
In an announcement detailing the feature, the company described it as part of a larger effort to give redditors greater control over their experience on the platform. When a user mutes a community, the community’s posts will be removed from their notifications and Home and Popular feeds, as well as removed from recommendations.
Community muting is currently only in effect on the Reddit mobile app but will eventually be rolled out to the desktop version. The feature will also be expanded to include other feeds, such as All, Discover and the Full Bleed Player.
Redditors should note that muting a community won’t bar them from taking part in it. They’ll still be able to view and post in the communities they’ve muted. Right now, users can mute up to 1,000 communities at a time
To mute a community, users can head to their settings or the three dots in the top right corner in Popular and Home feeds.
