Rare Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti Could Fetch $7.5M at Auction

A rare example of the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti, heralded as one of Ferrari’s most iconic designs, is scheduled to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s. This particular model, chassis 2067 GT, stands out as the 34th of just 165 units, making it a coveted piece for collectors.

Chassis 2067 GT, originally finished in Grigio over a Nero Connolly leather interior, boasts a rich history of ownership and extensive documentation. Notably, the vehicle was owned by Rob Lamplough, a UK-based racer and collector, who had the car re-bodied to resemble a 250 GTO for historic racing.

Under the hood, this Ferrari features a 3L Colombo V-12 engine, producing up to 240 hp. The vehicle was revolutionary at its time for incorporating disc brakes as standard — a first for Ferrari. The car’s performance credentials were proven on the track, with impressive results at Le Mans, the Tour de France and a memorable win by Sir Stirling Moss at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in 1960.

The vehicle has undergone several restorations, the most recent in 2009 by Carrozzeria Autosport, which returned the car to its factory steel body specification. It was certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2013, affirming its matching-numbers chassis and engine, a critical aspect for collectors.

Additionally, the car comes with a copy of the original factory build sheet, a detailed history file and the prestigious “Red Book” from Ferrari Classiche. These documents highlight its storied past and notable owners, including marque historian Marcel Massini.

This 250 GT SWB has not only participated in numerous road rallies and historic racing events but has also been meticulously maintained to preserve its condition and performance. Those hoping to enjoy the vehicle for themselves, add to its history or simply collect will have the opportunity to bid via RM Sotheby’s upcoming Cliveden House sale. The auction is set to start on June 12, with the 250 GT SWB expected to fetch as much as $7,500,000 USD by auction end.
