Rare 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS “Chairs & Flares” Up for Auction

A rare and meticulously restored 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, distinguished by its “Chairs & Flares” configuration, is up for auction via Bring A Trailer and has already garnered a bid of over $500,000 USD at the time of writing. This iconic vehicle, chassis number 05830, stands out as one of only approximately 91 US-market spyders crafted with this unique combination, making it a coveted collector’s piece for any Ferrari enthusiast.

Delivered new in March 1973 to Bill Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada, this example has lived in the West Coast for the majority of its life before spending periods in New Jersey and Illinois. Acquired by its current owner in December 2023, the car boasts a vibrant Giallo Fly paint finish, complemented by a black removable targa panel, flared fenders and a suite of period-specific luxury features like electric windows.

At the interior, the “Chair & Flares” is a perfect blend of sport and luxury, with Daytona-style seats dressed in Nero Connolly leather, a MOMO steering wheel, Borletti air conditioning and a Becker AM/FM radio. Under the hood, the car is powered by a 2.4L quad-cam V6 engine, enhanced by triple Weber carburetors and paired with a five-speed manual transaxle for an engaging driving experience. A Tubi-style exhaust system and a Magneti Marelli ignition system are among the notable upgrades, ensuring this Dino 246 GTS performs as stunningly as it looks.

Adding to its allure, the vehicle comes equipped with special Campagnolo 14×7.5” wheels, necessitated by the wider flared fenders — a hallmark of the “Chairs & Flares” specification. This example also features a comprehensive set of equipment in line with its US-market specification, including recessed rectangular front turn signals and servo-assisted disc brakes, ensuring a blend of performance and elegance.

At the time of writing, interested buyers have 10 days left to place their bid for a chance to own this special example of the Ferrari Dino 246 GTS.
