SANDOWN 3.42

A very low draw used to be a massive advantage in 5f races at Sandown and backing stalls 1 and 2 blind would have hit the winner 50% of the time. Combining them in a forecast bet was also a licence to print money. However, it’s not been all plain sailing for stall 1 in recent years and the inside berth is 0-13 this season. MISS ATTITUDE (stall 1 of 8) won well from the front here on her penultimate start, and at Newbury last time out, but faces stiff competition for the lead from ROCKING ENDS (stall 4). It’s possible that the pair of them were set it up for a stalker and the one I like is SAFARI DREAM (stall 3). He made all when winning here last time out but is usually ridden from just off the pace and it looks significant that the same trainer/owner won this race 12 months ago with Amazonian Dream, who is by the same sire as Safari Dream. Back in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back SAFARI DREAM in Sandown 3.42

SANDOWN 6.12

IKHTIRAAQ was allowed to saunter along at a steady pace when making all to score from stall 1 at Pontefract last time and it won’t be so easy to dominate proceedings today. Since 2012, horses who win a 1m Pontefract handicap from stalls 1, 2 or 3 are just nine from 88 when bidding to follow up (expected winners = 15) for a loss of £48.80. Those who made the running last time were just two from 28 in the same period. He has something to find on the clock with the majority of his rival and can be sold in the Spread 50-25-10 market.

Recommendation: Oppose IKHIRAAQ in Sandown 6.12
