Quincy Jones Dead at 91 Years Old

The legendary Quincy Jones has died. The sad news was announced by his publicist Arnold Robinson, who confirmed that the entertainment giant passed in his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family. He was 91 years old.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones’ career spanned over 75 years and is known for producing some of what is widely considered as the greatest music albums to ever exist, including the likes of Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad, Donna Summers’ self-titled record and Frank Sinatra and Count Basie’s L.A. Is My Lady. He also worked with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Terrace Martin, Ray Charles and Sammy Davis. Jr. He is the third artist to have the most GRAMMY nominations in history with 80 nods, as well as the artist with the third-most GRAMMY wins with 28. He also scored numerous films such as The Wiz and The Color Purple (which also became a stage play). Outside of music, Jones produced the fan-favorite TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air which turned Will Smith into a star.

Jones is survived by his seven children: Jolie, Rachel, Martina, Quincy Jones III, Kidada, Rashida and Kenya.
