Quavo has dropped his first solo track of the year, dubbed “HIMOTHY.”
The QC rapper’s bars ride on the track’s orchestral melody and strong 808 bass, as he asks listeners to halt discussions surrounding the loss of his nephew, Takeoff. “I’m tired of you talkin’ ’bout him (I’m tired), please, let my nephew rest,” Quavo raps, referencing the late Migos member, who was shot and killed in November of 2022.
In his later lyrics, Quavo names DMX and calls himself the JAY-Z of Atlanta: “Havin’ plenty of dog s–t, go DMX/ I’m goin’ all gold bottles/ I’m the Nawfside Shawn Carter (Quay-Z).” Notably, the boast-filled track’s title, “HIMOTHY,” is a fitting nod to the popular Gen Alpha term that refers to the “greatest of the greats.”
Quavo has emerged back on the solo scene after a strong 2023, during which he dropped his sophomore album, Rocket Power, which served as a tribute to Takeoff. The album heard the two rappers join forces on “Patty Cake” and “Back Where It Begins,” while additional collaborations included Young Thug on “Focused” and Hunxho and BabyDrill on “Stain.” The record debuted at No. 18 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with roughly 33,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week.
