‘Predator’ Series Will Receive a New Film With This Summer’s Disney+ Original ‘Prey’

‘Predator’ Series Will Receive a New Film With This Summer’s Disney+ Original ‘Prey’

Since its 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring debut, the Predator franchise has received only four films, the most recent being 2018’s The Predator. This summer, however, fans will see the alien menace grace their screens once again in an all-new action-thriller.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the new movie is set 300 years ago in the Comanche Nation. A young woman named Naru has been trained as a skilled and fierce warrior. When a mysterious creature threatens the lives of those in her camp, she sets out to hunt, and ultimately kill, the predator. An epic showdown ensues between Naru and what turns out to be a vicious alien adversary.

Trachtenberg is best known for his 2016 psychological horror film 10 Cloverfield Lane. Prey is written by Patrick Aison and produced by John Davis, who worked on The Predator, and Jhane Myers. Lawrence Gordon, Marty Ewing, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff are serving as executive producers.

With the project, filmmakers were “committed to creating a film that provides an accurate portrayal of the Comanche and brings a level of authenticity that rings true to its Indigenous peoples.” The cast is made up almost entirely Native and First Nation’s talent. Amber Midthunder stars in the lead role of Naru, alongside Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope.

Prey will premiere from 20th Century Studios as a Disney+ original on August 5 and will also be available for streaming on Hulu. Watch the trailer for the action-thriller now.

In other entertainment news, Netflix is using subscribers as focus groups for new movies and TV shows.
