The Porsche 911 (997) Sport Classic is one of the most sought-after modern 911s, driving fans into disarray every time one of the rare examples comes up for sale today — but now, the German sports car brand has done one better, welcoming the new-generation Porsche 911 Sport Classic.

Based on the 992-gen 911 Turbo, the new Sport Classic follows on from the coveted 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition and like that model, it too is made under the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur division, here limited to just 1,250 examples worldwide. Speaking on the project, Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualization and Classic, said: “The Heritage Design models represent the most emotionally driven concepts of the Porsche product strategy. This unique approach sees the Style Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades.”

While it’s based on a 911 Turbo, plenty of work has been done to distinguish this car as the Sport Classic. The usual widebody remains, but a fixed rear spoiler in the style of the legendary “Ducktail” Carrera RS 2.7 and a double-bubble roof set this car apart from its siblings, as does the signature “Sport Grey Metallic” paint. Other options such as “Black,” “Gentian Blue Metallic,” or paint to sample finishes are available, but a Sport Classic typically looks best when it references the “Fashion Grey” hue of the early Porsche 356.

Twin stripes, Porsche branding, and “60” roundels are added to the car regardless of what paint you choose, as is gold-toned 911 Sport Classic badging on the rear deck. Fuchs-style rims round out the exterior, while powering the car is a 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 542 HP — importantly, sending all that power to the rear wheels only via a manual, meaning the Sport Classic is the only way you can get RWD manual driving with a 911 Turbo.

Support comes courtesy of a 911 Turbo and 911 GTS-based suspension, which comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), dynamic shock absorbers and a ride-height lowering of 10mm.

Pricing starts at €272,714 EUR (approx. $287,000 USD) and deliveries from European Porsche Centers will commence in July 2022. Take a closer look at the Porsche 911 Sport Classic above.
