Porsche Showcases Its Upcoming 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Porsche has announced that the 718 Cayman GT4 is getting a big brother in the form of a 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The RS moniker has previously been reserved exclusively for the German marque’s 911 range, producing models such as the GT3 RS and the rare GT2 RS line-up.

Today, Porsche shows the upcoming 718 Cayman GT4 RS taking on the infamous Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit, tackling the track in just 7:09.300 minutes. For the record, Porsche holds the current production car lap record with its 911 GT2 RS Manthey-Racing model, which lapped the ‘Ring in just 6:43.300 minutes, while the outright record is also held by Porsche with its 919 that did the lap in 5:19:55.

This lap time is 23.6 seconds faster than its little brother, the 718 Cayman GT4, which in racing terms is essentially a lifetime. While no details have been said as of yet, the GT4 RS is highly likely to pack more power while also being lighter, as per the RS formula, and will be positioned as a track car for the road.

While there is a light amount of prototype disguising, we can see that the GT4 RS features a rear wing akin to that on the new-gen GT3 RS, deep front hood airducts like those on the GT2 RS, and a much more aggressive stance — the front is wider, the car sits lower, the diffuser is angrier, and inside, bucket seats and a fixed roll cage appear.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is set to debut globally in November. For now, check out the car in the images and video above.
