Nigeria’s judicial panel, especially the ongoing process set up by the Federal and some states governments to look into the recent police brutality and Lekki shooting, will receive a major boost if the government would embrace the Polygraph Lie Detector Device System.
A security expert, Paul Ibirogba, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Hogan Guards Security Limited, stated this in Lagos at the inauguration of the Hogan Polygraph and Investigations Limited.
He said polygraph lie detector has become an entrenched tool in advanced countries to enhance criminal investigations procedures and for recruitment into armed forces.
According to him, the device is also used to measure and record several physiological indicators such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration and skin conductivity.
Polygraph, which has been in use for about 100 years, has been validated severally all over the world and rests on the belief that when people lie intentionally, they exhibit certain predictable physiological characteristics.
He noted that Nigeria’s judicial process is long and winding, and often leads to frustration when the end result of determining the truth becomes opaque, saying the reason some criminal investigations and court processes take years and even decades is because of the search for truth or evidence.
The security expert recommended that police and other security forces in Nigeria can begin their much anticipated reforms on taking every recruit through the lie detector to ensure that bad eggs and those with criminal background are weeded out from the outset.
Ibirogba said Hogan Guards Security Limited envisions crime rates will reduce in Nigeria by ensuring that all organisations, irrespective of size, must have a work-force that is genuinely honest and possesses a high level of integrity.
He said that Hogan Polygraph and Investigations will be rolling out specific polygraph examination, periodic polygraph examination, pre-employment polygraph examination, criminal record investigation / background check, forensic assessment interview, infidelity issues and vetting services for academic credentials, guarantors, licenses and employee residences.
