For Christmas of 2020, Playboi Carti’s gift to hip-hop was the release of the much-anticipated Whole Lotta Red. While it was met with a mixed response, it went on to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and has cemented Carti as a central figure in modern rap. Since then, cryptic teasers, Narcissist merchandise — both cancelled and released — and festival appearances have captured the attention of his cult-like following.
In the past few days, Carti has taken to social media to tease the release of new music. On Instagram, a post of an image with the classic Parental Advisory Explicit Content tag implied it as a cover for a music release. He also shared stories that included a screenshot of audio recordings sent to him and another with a waveform display of presumably a new track. Via Twitter, he simply shared a hello alongside stating “love all my supporters it’s time.” The tweets came on Christmas, the two year anniversary of his last album Whole Lotta Red. Theories and speculation are in full force as another gift to his fans may be en route.
As always, Carti’s next move remains unpredictable. However, fans are hopeful that new music will release in the coming months. Stay tuned for more information as the rollout continues.
