Pitchfork Music Festival Teams With Advocates for Urban Agriculture

Pitchfork Music Festival is pleased to announce a partnership with Advocates for Urban Agriculture (AUA), a Chicago-based organization that empowers urban growers to foster thriving communities through sustainable agriculture and equitable food systems while honoring Indigenous sovereignty, Black liberation, and immigrants’ rights. A portion of the proceeds from Pitchfork Music Festival 2022 will be donated to AUA.

“AUA is excited to partner with Pitchfork Music Festival in supporting the urban agriculture community in Chicago,” co-operations steward Jazmin Martinez said in a statement. “Now more than ever, there is a need to know where our food comes from and who is growing it. Through this partnership, Pitchfork and its attendees are strengthening Chicago’s local food system and supporting Chicago growers and urban farmers directly.”

At Pitchfork Music Festival, AUA will provide a backdrop canvas on which attendees will be asked to write or draw a response to the following question: “How would you transform vacant lots and empty spaces in Chicago?” Participants will be able to amplify the project by posting photos using the hashtags #AUAChicago and #UrbanAgChiAUA. AUA will also be distributing small seed packets throughout the weekend.

Pitchfork Music Festival 2022 takes place in Chicago’s Union Park from July 15-17. Headlining the festival are the National, Mitski, and the Roots, and additional performers include Japanese Breakfast, Earl Sweatshirt, and Arooj Aftab. Passes are still available here, so be sure to buy your tickets soon!
