Pipilotti Rist Visualizes the Neurons in Our Brain in New Installation

There are billions of neurons constantly working day and night within our minds. Pipilotti Rist seeks to make this visualization a little easier through a new site-specific installation at Qatar Museums.

Curated by Tom Eccles and Bouthayna Baltaji, Your Brain to Me, My Brain to You is the Swiss artist’s first exhibition in the Middle East. Visitors will be cast into a multi-sensory experience that aims to illuminate humanity’s collective unconscious and the power of the mind.

“This work is both a collective and individual experience. We want to understand what is happening inside the brain of the other, and culture is the main way to try to understand each other beyond language,” said Rist in a statement.

Set against a soundscape and video footage of Qatar’s landscapes, 12,000 LED strung lights will work in tandem to create ethereal scenes that communicate to one another. Your Brain to Me, My Brain to You opened back in March and will be on view in the QBEC Gallery at the National Museum of Qatar until January 14, 2023.

Elsewhere, HypeArt visited Inés Maestre for the latest Studio Visits.
