Pipilotti Rist has unveiled a new site-specific video on the facade of the M+ Museum in Hong Kong. Globally recognized for her sensorial videos and installations, the Swiss artist typically creates immersive environments where the audience is invited to sit and observe colorful depictions of the human body, and our changing relationship with technology.
In her latest work, Hand Me Your Trust, Rist bypasses the space of a gallery and museum altogether to present a towering meditation on the bustling lights and skyscrapers that constitute the Hong Kong skyline and the hands that made them. Emblematic of her cinematic style, each scene showcases various hands — some abstract, others literal depictions — as they float in and out of space.
“My work looks at hands not only as working and creating, but also ornamentally: our hands can be beautiful extensions of our emotions, to communicate with other living beings without words,” said the artist in a statement.
Hand Me Your Trust was commissioned by M+ and supported by Art Basel and UBS. The video installation will play from 7 to 9pm daily until June 17.
