Pink Floyd Reportedly Sells Catalog and Likeness to Sony for $400M

Pink Floyd Reportedly Sells Catalog and Likeness to Sony for $400M

Pink Floyd has reportedly sold the rights to its recorded music and likeness to Sony Music for $400 million USD.

Since the terms of the deal include the band’s likeness, Sony will be able to use the “Pink Floyd” name and make branded merchandise, as well as movies or TV shows centered on the band, The Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the publication, while Pink Floyd has sold all of its recorded music catalog, the deal doesn’t include songwriting.

The band has reportedly been fighting internally over the terms of a catalog sale for years. In 2022, it was reported that Pink Floyd could be nearing a deal but its members failed to come to an agreement.

Sony has also snapped up valuable music catalogs from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Pink Floyd’s recorded catalog includes hits such as “Dark Side of the Moon,” “The Wall and “Wish You Were Here.”
