Phaidon has released the first comprehensive monograph on Swiss-born artist, Nicolas Party. As one of the preeminent painters of the day, Party has become world-renowned for his hypersaturated universes that celebrate and challenge the history of painting.
Richly packed with content, the publication traces Party’s evolution from being a graffiti artist in Lausanne to using the soft and visceral oil pastels he’s known for today. A hallmark of Party’s oeuvre is his appreciation for what’s come before and other artists who inspire him in the present. The Swiss artists amalgamates all these references across his signature anthropomorphized figures and sculptures, to intricate murals and installations.
The monograph provides a first-hand look at how Party develops this mark through a number of interviews with figures such as Stéphane Aquin, Director of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, which is currently showcasing Party’s “L’heure mauve” exhibition until October 16, 2022. Phaidon’s Nicolas Party monograph is now available to purchase for $50 USD.
On the topic of books, Daniel Arsham released a comprehensive look at his creative process.
