The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is paying tribute to the history of McLaren with a new racecar exhibition.
Founded in 1963 by Bruce McLaren, the McLaren Motor Racing team is the second-most successful team in Formula 1 history. The new exhibition explores this legacy by looking at rare early McLaren racecars like the Cam-Am, Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 5000 and USAC that all feature the automaker’s signature papaya-colored paint scheme. A highlight of the exhibition is the 1967 McLaren M6A which is the first McLaren to include papaya-colored paint. Also included in the exhibition are modern McLarens like the 2018 MCL33 Formula 1 racecar and more.
“McLaren is one of the most storied names in motorsports history,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “The racecars of Bruce McLaren and the company he founded have been at the forefront of design and performance for decades. We are excited to let the public get a closer look at some of these iconic and historic machines.”
The McLaren exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum is set to open on Saturday, June 18.
