Perrotin Publishes the First Monograph on Lee Bae

Perrotin recently concluded an emphatic exhibition of work by South Korean artist Lee Bae. Located in the Marais district of Paris, the show invited audiences to immerse themselves in a series of large-scale charcoal drawings, paintings and sculptures that ruminates on the abysses of blackness.

To follow, the gallery has published the first monograph on Bae that encapsulates his multidisciplinary practice. Spanning 244 pages, Lee Bae is written in English, French and Chinese and includes critiques by Virginia Moon and Henri-François Debailleux, along with an interview with the artist and Cheryl Sim. By using charcoal, a material Bae believes would be one of the last materials on Earth if the apocalypse happened, the artist’s monochromatic studies investigate the cycle of life and the fourth dimension of time.

The publication is centered around the different series of his work — from “Issus du Feu” and “Landscapes” to “Brushstroke” and beyond. Lee Bae is available to purchase for $65 USD at Perrotin’s webshop, along with select art bookstores around the world.

Elsewhere, Daido Moriyama spotlights rare photographs in Gallery COMMON exhibition.
