After peaking at a prior No. 2 high on Billboard‘s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart with the Monster Truck-featuring “Don’t Tell Me How to Live,” Kid Rock nabs his first ruler on the ranking, which began in 2020, as “We the People” jumps 3-1 on the Feb. 12-dated survey.
“People” drew 1.7 million U.S. streams and sold 14,600 downloads in its first full tracking week (Jan. 28-Feb. 3), according to MRC Data. It was released Jan. 24, and despite premiering in the middle of a chart tracking frame, earned 1.6 million streams and sold 21,100 Jan. 24-27, sparking its No. 3 start.
“People” concurrently tops the all-format Digital Song Sales chart, Rock Digital Song Sales and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales for a second week each.
The track is Kid Rock’s first No. 1 on Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales. He notches his second leader on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, after “Bawitdaba,” from 1999, reigned for a week in 2013. (The rock-based digital sales tallies began in 2010.)
“People” is, as of now, a standalone single. The Detroit-area native’s most recent studio set, Sweet Southern Sugar, was released in November 2017 and debuted as his fourth No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart.
