Paul Weller lands his fifth solo No. 1 on the U.K. album chart with On Sunset (Polydor/Universal).
Weller has now had chart-topping albums across five consecutive decades, in three different incarnations: as a solo artist (in 1995, 2002, 2008, 2012 and 2020), in 1982 with The Jam and 1985 with the Style Council. On Sunset has combined units of 24,000, just over 25% of which are on vinyl.
The late rapper Pop Smoke debuts at No. 2 with Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon (Republic/Universal), and classical vocalist Katherine Jenkins at No. 3 with Cinema Paradiso (Decca/Universal). Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (EMI/Universal) holds at No. 4 and Bob Dylan dips 2-5 with the former No. 1 Rough and Rowdy Ways (Columbia/Sony).
Longtime art-pop duo Sparks score a fourth U.K. top ten album as A Steady Drip Drip Drip (BMG) opens at No. 7 and metalcore band Bury Tomorrow start at No. 10 with Cannibal (Music For Nations). The Original Broadway Cast album of Hamilton (Atlantic/Universal) leaps 28-1 on the compilation chart, topping the list for the first time in its 28th week.
Meanwhile, “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” by Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo (RCA/Sony) starts a second week atop the Official Charts Company’s singles survey.
“Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” amasses 63,000 combined units, including 7.2m streams, to finish 8,000 ahead of its predecessor at No. 1, Dababy’s “Rockstar” (Interscope/Universal), featuring Roddy Rich. That’s in runner-up place again, as Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain On Me” (Republic/Interscope/Universal), “Breaking Me” (Positiva/Universal) by Topic featuring A7S and “Rover” (Parlophone/Warner) by S1mba featuring DTG hold at positions 3-5.
The week’s highest new entry, at No. 7, is “West Ten” (A.J. Tracey) by A.J. Tracey and Mabel, while Pop Smoke’s “The Woo” opens at No. 9.
