Patoranking Affirms 'World Best' Status With New Album Featuring Ludacris, Popcaan, Beenie Man

Nigerian star Patoranking is manifesting greatness on his new album, World Best, out today, Sept. 6. “My musical journey hasn’t always been an easy one,” the musician tells Rolling Stone, “but still we rise like Maya Angelou said.”

World Best marks Patoranking’s fourth album, and first in three years, following 2020’s Three. The album’s title, Patoranking adds, is also his “affirmation.” Reflecting on his journey from his earliest releases in 2014 to now, he continues: “My first song ‘Alubarika,’ I said from ‘nothing to something, from Lagos to America.‘ So on this album, although ‘World Best’ is a name my friends and fans already call me, it is me affirming the path chosen. The road less traveled will pay off.”

Since 2014, Patoranking has repeatedly shown his knack for blending elements of reggae, dancehall, Afrobeats, and hip-hop. World Best speaks to that range, especially in its myriad guests, including international stars like Ludacris, Beenie Man, and Popcaan. Patoranking also linked up with fellow African hitmakers Kizz Daniel and Diamond Platnumz, as well as up-and-coming artists such as Gyakie, Victony, and Zion Foster.

“The album is a pure celebration of African music on the stage,” Patoranking said in a statement. “Africa is now. I always say I’m blessed that this is happening in my generation, and I’m glad to be a part of this history.”

At the time of its release, Three was Patoranking’s biggest album to date, anchored by hthe smash song “Abule.” He’s remained busy in the three years since it’s release, sharing songs like “I’m In Love” and the 2021 hit, “Celebrate Me,” before beginning the official rollout for World Best. Over the past year, Patoranking has been trickling out tunes from the record, including “Kolo Kolo” with Diamond Platnumz, “Abobi,” “Higher,” and “Tonight” with Popcaan.
