'Oppenheimer' Is Now the Highest-Grossing WWII Film of All Time

Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer is officially the highest-grossing World War II film ever. The director breaks his own record as Oppenheimer surpasses Dunkirk, another Nolan film and Steven Spielberg‘s Saving Private Ryan.

The success of the film is attributed to the top-notch cast assembled by Nolan. Despite just being in theaters for just over two weeks, the film has shattered many major Hollywood records, bringing in $559 million USD at the worldwide box office. The film features a star-studded cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon and more. In second place, Dunkirk generated only $527 million USD globally at box office whereas Saving Private Ryan which also starred Damon, comes in third with $482 million USD.

Currently, the Nolan film is still entangled in the “Barbenheimer battle” that sees Barbie pulling ahead. So far, Barbie has generated more that $1 billion USD in th same amount of time. Oppenheimer has done exceptionally well for IMAX and is on track to becoming one of the most successful IMAX films in recent memory. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer are now in theaters.
