Open call: The Music Imbizo 2024 Hackathon in SA

Open call: The Music Imbizo 2024 Hackathon in SA

The Music Imbizo 2024 Hackathon will focus on open innovations in the value chain of the music industry, from songwriting, recording, managing data, publishing, royalty collection and calculation to solving issues in the live and performance space.

Who can apply?

Programmers, designers, managers, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in innovation within the music industry in general. Hackathon participants will be given 48 hours to develop a prototype of their projects.

Challenges: Introducing local innovation to the South African music industry

There is a need for the general monitoring of the use of music across many diverse platforms. Musicians want to know where and when their music was used. Thousands of music pieces are released daily. The hackathon will address questions such as how the consumer gets introduced to new and exciting music as well as how artists position themselves in the market.

As the musician or artist’s catalogue grows, keeping track of their catalogue becomes more and more tough. Some of the questions to be addressed include how a musician, artist or record label keeps track of their features and own music, and how best to use artificial intelligence for the benefit of the musicians and the music industry.

Interested applicants can view the original call or register here before 15 April.
