Oklahoma City officials have pumped the breaks on an upcoming Subtronics concert due to the location’s close proximity to a nearby mental health facility.
This week the event’s promoter, Relentless Beats, was denied a permit to host the Oklahoma City stop of Subtronics’ Monster Energy Outbreak Tour.
The show was supposed to take place in a lot just behind the Oakwood Springs mental health facility. Due to the loud, distorted nature of the music, there was concern the concert could upset some of the facility’s residents, some of whom suffer from PTSD and are sensitive to noise.
CEO Jayne Van Bramer expressed concern to local NBC affiliate KFOR-TV over the event. Bramer specifically singled out lyrics pertaining to death from Subtronics’ 2020 single “Scream Saver” as a potential trigger for the hospital’s most vulnerable.
At the time of writing Relentless Beats has not announced whether they plan to appeal the city’s decision. However, if the company decides to host the show anyway without a permit it could be subject to financial penalty.
