Kjell Erik Killi Olsen is a Norwegian painter and sculptor best known for creating humanoid figures that teeter between the humorous and the grotesque. As one of the nation’s wealthiest living artist’s, Olsen recently opened a new art gallery in his hometown of Trondheim — about an eight-hour drive from the Arctic Circle.
Dubbed the Kjøpmannsgata Ung Kunst (KUK), the inaugural show has been curated by Rhea Dahl and acclaimed artist duo, Elmgreen & Dragset. “It’s Just a Phase” brings together a list of international talent who focus their work on the body and identity, in relation to way they have changed in light of the social, ethical and technological advances of recent times.
At the core of the exhibition lies a questioning of the essentialism of life’s phases — from birth to adolescence and beyond. “It’s Just a Phase” is on view at KUK until February 13, 2022.
