Track by Track is our recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through each song on a release. Today, Israeli singer-songwriter Noga Erez breaks down her wonderful third album, THE VANDALIST.
In 2021, Noga Erez began to turn heads with her innovative album Kids. Now, the singer is making her major label debut with her new album, THE VANDALIST, which finds her going bigger and bolder than ever before. With Atlantic Records behind her and a host of talented collaborators behind the boards, Erez’s latest set puts forth an exciting new sound with a message worth listening to.
As Erez tells it, THE VANDALIST presents a nuanced look at life both in-person and online, all while exploring the boundaries of genre. From blending various sonic styles to writing lyrics full of curiosity and sassiness, many elements of THE VANDALIST are daring — which was Erez’s exact intention. Some songs are angry, some are curious, some are hopeful, and some are just plain fun. All in all, the album marks a new beginning for Erez, one where she is not afraid to be honest and vulnerable.
“It’s like a change of approach to how to deal with the world being fucked up,” she tells Consequence. “No more sadness, no more fear. Just a big fuck you back and see how we take it from there.”
Across 16 songs, Erez interweaves personal stories of the hardships she has faced as a musician with universal statements about modern life. Above all, though, she displays such themes with excellent craftsmanship.
