Nintendo Unveils New Switch OLED Model

Nintendo Unveils New Switch OLED Model

Nintendo on Tuesday unveiled its Switch OLED model, the highly anticipated update to its pre-existing hybrid console.

Expanding on the regular Switch model’s 6.2-inch LCD screen, the OLED edition arrives equipped with a seven-inch screen that delivers more vivid colors and sharper contrast. Additionally, the latest model also features a wide adjustable stand for tabletop usage, an updated dock that includes a wired LAN port, 64GB of storage and advanced audio for an enhanced gaming experience. The console employs the same Nvidia Custom Tegra processor as the regular Switch device and offers a similar 4.5- to nine-hour battery life.

“The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser, in a statement. “With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.”

Aside from handheld and tabletop model, players can connect their Switch OLED model to a TV and share the device’s detachable Joy-Con controllers to engage in multiplayer experiences on a larger screen. Previously owned Joy-Cons will be compatible with the new console.

Nintendo’s Switch OLED will arrive in two colorways — one with white Joy-Cons and a matching dock and another with neon red and blue Joy-Cons and a black dock — on October 8, the same day as Metroid Dead. The device will cost $349.99 USD upon its release.

In the meantime, take a look at what to expect from the Nintendo Switch-ready Metroid game.
