Nicolas Cage to star in Spider-Man Noir live-action series

Nicolas Cage is set to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in a live-action show ordered to series at MGM+ and Prime Video.

Simply titled Noir, the show will debut on MGM+ domestically ahead of a global release on Prime Video. Cage previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but Noir will mark the first time the character has been portrayed in a live-action project.

Per the official logline, Noir will tell the story of “an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

Noir comes from Oren Uziel (22 Jump StreetThe Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher), who will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, the team behind Into the Spider-Verse. Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” President of Sony Pictures Television Studios Katherine Pope said in a statement.

Noir will mark Cage’s first regular TV role after a lengthy film career. His recent projects include PigDream Scenario, and Renfield.

Amazon has now greenlit two projects from Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. Angela Kang’s Silk: Spider Society is already in the works.
